System Requirements

Introduction

DiscoveryLancer.com is a graphic-intensive, information website standardized for virtually every computer system and internet connection. Generally, DiscoveryLancer.com has been designed and optimized for the latest computer hardware, broadband internet access (ie. DSL or cable) and a variety of internet browsers. This doen't mean that this website will not work on slower computers or dial-up internet access. In actual fact, DiscoveryLancer.com will work with any type of system but performance will depend on how current you computer hardware is and the speed of your internet connection. If you are using dial-up on a slower computer (500mhz or slower), you can expect slower performance than someone who has broadband and a fast computer.

DiscoveryLancer.com has undergone extensive testing to assure optimum performance and complete compatibility with most types of computers (WIN / MAC), web browers and internet connections. These tests have revealed that under certian circumstances, this websites download performance is considerably slower when using dial-up internet access and a slower computer (500mhz or slower). If your system fits this criteria, you may experience slow download speeds while visiting our website (one page may take up to 7 minutes to download, depending on the page size and amount of graphics on the page). We appoligize for any inconvenience this may cause. Our recommended solution for this problem is system upgrades and moving over to some type of broadband internet access.

If you are experiencing any type of problem with the performance of our website, we strongly recommend that you read the following sections. We outline what system requirements will give you optimum download performance, as well, we have included a Troubleshooting section the may assist you with your problems. If you require assistance with your problem, contact the webmaster of The Discovery Group for immediate help.

Minimum System Requirements

As mentioned, this website is designed for big bandwidth computer systems but will work with almost every type of computer but the performance is limited to how fast your computer and internet access is. Troubleshooting Q&A

This section is dedicated to providing you with some extra information and possible solutions when you are experiencing problems trying to access DiscoveryLancer.com. It is important to remember that many problems associated with trying to acces a URL web address may have nothing to do with the website in question. In fact, there are many possibilities that could be causing the problem other than the website itself. In the following articles we outline common solutions and probable causes of access difficulties to the internet.

Common Solutions When Experiencing Difficulties Trying to Access DiscoveryLancer.com:

1. Restart your computer and try to access the website again.

2. Be sure to turn off any other programs that may be running. This includes downloading via P2P servers.

3. On a Windows platform, delete the temporary internet files, history and delete the cookies. This can be done in the web browsers properties. If you are using a MAC, clear the disk cache, history and delete the cookies. This can be done in the web browsers preferences.

4. Defrage your hard drive. Instructions for this operation can be found on the CPU's help file.

5. Scan your computer with anti-virus software to be sure there are no viruses on your computer.

6. Check with your ISP (internet service provider). They may be having trouble or doing maintenance.

7. Perform Scan Disk / Disk First Aid to determine if the problem is hardware-based.

8. Review the System Requirements. Performance issues may occur if you are below the requirements.

9. If none of the previous solutions help, consider investing in some new upgrades for your computer.

Probable Causes of Poor Performance When Trying to Access LancerGroup.com:

1. Your computer may not be in compliance with our minimum system requirements. Review these requirements to confirm that your computer meets the acceptable standards provided by LancerGroup.com.

2. Your ISP may be experiencing problems or might be performing routine network maintenance.

3. There may be a large amount of temporary internet files on your computer.

4. You may have other programs open that could be affecting performance. Downloading multiple files has the same effect.

5. The hard drive may be badly fragmented and requires disk defragmentation.

6. There may be a virus on your computer. Be sure your virus definitions are up-to-date.

7. Check that your computer hardware and cables are in perfect working order.

If you are still experiencing problems and have reviewed the minimum system requirements, common solutions and probable causes, you can review the Q&A below for other possible solutions. If the problem persists, contact the The Discovery Group webmaster for immediate assistance.

Q: When accessing this website, the pages are loading extemely slowly. Why?

A: Your computer may not be in compliance with our minimum system requirements therefore you should expect slower than normal download perfomance as DiscoveryLancer.com has been designed for big bandwidth systems. Also be sure that other programs or downloading has been turned off.

Q: Why are parts of the website appearing in the browser but not the whole page?

A: You might be trying to access DiscoveryLancer.com on an older computer with a slow internet connection. Be patient. What you are seeing is the page downloading to your computer one piece at a time. If you are on a broadband connection, you might be trying to access the site at a peak time in your area and your ISP has slowed down (usually occurs with cable). Your ISP may also be performing system maintenance to the network.

Q: The pages on this website appear inncorect and say there are errors on the page. Why?

A: More than likely, you are trying to access DiscoveryLancer.com with an older browser. See the minimum system requirements for compatible browser versions.

Q: Why do other internet websites load faster than Discoverylancer.com?

A: DiscoveryLancer.com is a graphic-intensive website that was originally designed for broadband users. If other websites are loading properly and DiscoveryLancer.com is not, the other websites might be considerably smaller in terms of file size therefore download faster. NOTE: We are currently taking measures to assure that users with older computers can access DiscoveryLancer.com more quickly. We appologize for the inconvenience.

Q: Why do the graphics and photos look distorted on DiscoveryLancer.com?

A: This has to do with your computer monitor and not DiscoveryLancer.com. Your computer monitor is probably an older VGA monitor with a poor DOT pitch which typically do not display web graphics very well. A more serious problem that causes this would be a failing video card.

Q: The text on this website is far too small to read. How can this be fixed?

A: DiscoveryLancer.com uses small type on the website to accomodate the large volume of written copy that is common among information websites. If you are using a monitor resolution higher than 1024 x 768, you need to set the resolution back to 1024 x 768. This will make reading the copy much easier. DiscoveryLancer.com is viewed best at a monitor resolution of 800 x 600.

Q: The Lancer online forms don't seem to be working when the "submit" button is clicked?

A: If you are experiencing problems with the DiscoveryLancer.com online forms (ie. when pressing the "submit" button and and error message comes up asking you to configure your internet / email settings, then it is highly likely that you are an AOL or MSN Hotmail user. These types of email services are internet-based and in most cases, will not work with our current form setup which uses Outlook Express or Netscape Communicator to transmit the form data from your computer to us. If this is not the case, then there may be something blocking the data transmission (ie. spam/virus filters, thrid-party shareware, etc.).

NOTE: In the coming year, we will be producing new online forms that will be compatible will all types of internet setups and browsers.
